About the Trail
Makers Frontyard Trail started with one front yard and a simple idea.
In 2020, during the Covid lockdowns, an Ashfield maker invited two creative friends to set up stalls in her front yard and share their handmade work with the local community. Word spread through neighbours, friends and social media—and people came.
What began as a small pop-up quickly became something special. Locals loved the chance to discover handmade treasures, meet makers in person and reconnect with their community in the open air. Since then, the Trail has grown into a much-loved annual event held during Sydney Craft Week. From three makers in a single front yard, it expanded to 17 front yards and more than 40 makers and artists by 2024.
In 2026, the Trail received support from Inner West Council through the Beyond The Studio creative grants program, helping us grow the event and create even more opportunities for local makers to share their work and strengthen our vibrant creative communities.

Meet our makers
The Trail gives makers and artists a chance to showcase their work at no cost, in a relaxed, low-pressure setting.
It’s a rewarding way to gain exposure, make sales, connect with locals, and build creative networks in a supportive, collaborative environment.
